Club History
Olympians was founded in 1949, replacing another Indianapolis Jets club from Indiana. The leading players of the team were graduates of the University of Kentucky Alex Groza and Ralph Beard - gold medalists of the 1948 Olympic Games . The club also played two other Olympic champions - Wallace Jones and Cliff Barker .
After the 1951 season, Thunderstorm and Beard were barred from participating in the NBA for life by League Commissioner Maurice Podolof . The suspension was the result of allegations of rigging university results against them. In 1953, the team went bankrupt. The club finished the last season with a score of 28-43. In total, over 4 seasons in the NBA, the club won 132 victories and suffered 137 defeats.
Olympians still hold the NBA record for the longest game. On January 6, 1951, in a match with six overtime, the Olympians defeated the Rochester Royals with a score of 75-73.
