The 1st Polish Corps is a military unit created in 1943 in the USSR by activists of the Union of Polish Patriots from Polish and Soviet citizens who speak Polish, not only Poles by origin.

The formation of the compound was begun on August 10, 1943, the 1st Polish corps included Polish military units already existing on the territory of the USSR:
- 1st Polish Infantry Division (12 thousand people);
- 1st Polish Tank Regiment. Heroes of Westerplatte
- 1st Warsaw Fighter Aviation Regiment (32 Yak-1 aircraft)
In the future, the formation of new Polish units began, a Polish officer school was opened for the training of officers (in addition, Polish units for 50 cadets were created at the 3rd Saratov Armored School and the Ordzhonikidze Automobile School).
During 1943, for the combat coordination of units and headquarters of formations of the 1st Polish Army Corps, the headquarters of the Moscow Military District conducted several two-stage command post exercises and two tactical exercises. By the end of 1943, the formation of the 1st Polish Army Corps was completed [1]
On March 6, 1944, Polish units on the territory of the USSR were deployed to the 1st Polish army .
On March 11, 1944, the 1st battalion of self-propelled artillery, equipped with the SU-85, was included in the corps.

- 3rd Infantry Division named after Romuald Traugutt
