The Commission on the Status of Women is one of the supporting structures of the UN Economic and Social Council . It exists since 1946 (originally as a subcommission of the Commission on Human Rights ). It consists of representatives of 45 UN member states elected for 4 years ESS taking into account the principle of geographical distribution: 13 members represent Africa, 11 - Asia, 9 - Latin America and the Caribbean, 4 - Eastern Europe, 8 - Western Europe and other countries. The Commission organized World Conferences on the Status of Women and holds annual sessions in New York between February and March; Usually, “agreed conclusions” on priority topics of the session are adopted at sessions. There is a procedure for reporting violations of women's rights to the Commission. The Commission monitors progress on the issues highlighted by the Beijing Platform for Action adopted at the 1995 World Conference on Women [1] .
