Champion OI 1956, silver. winner of the Olympic Games 1960 in the foil fencing team championship.

At the Olympics in Melbourne (1956) he won gold in the team rapier. Four years later, at the Games in Rome (1960), he became a silver medalist in the same discipline when the Italians lost in the final to the USSR national team. He also became a world champion in Rome (1955) in a team rapier and a Paris bronze medalist (1957).

Inveterate yachtsman - in 1981, he won the prestigious Three Quarter Ton Cup regatta. He was elected president of the Italian Sailing Federation and five times was captain of the Italian team at the Admiral's Cup team regatta.
