Policy
In the 2012 presidential election, residents of the canton gave Francois Hollande 36.4% of the votes in the 1st round against 27.7% of Marine Le Pen and 14.0% of Nicolas Sarkozy , in the 2nd round of the canton defeated Hollande, who received 66.5% of the vote (2007 Round 1: Segolen Royal - 32.2%; Sarkozy - 19.4%. Round 2: Royal - 61.8%). In the elections to the National Assembly in 2012 in the 12th electoral district of Pas-de-Calais, in the 1st round they gave a majority of 36.2% of votes to the acting deputy, the mayor of Lievin Jean-Pierre Küshed , who spoke at these elections as an independent left-wing candidate, but in the district as a whole he could not reach the 2nd round, where the candidate of the Socialist Party, Nicolas Bee , won, having collected 59.7% of the vote. (2007. Jean-Pierre Küsheda (SP): Round 1 - 53.6%, Round 2 - 71.0%). In the regional elections of 2010 in the 1st round, the list of socialists won, collecting 45.5% of the vote against 18.5% from the National Front, 8.0% from the Communists and 7.3% from the list of the "right". In the 2nd round, a single “left list” with the participation of socialists, communists and “greens” headed by the President of the Regional Council of Nor-Pas-de-Calais, Daniel Percheron, received 65.2% of votes, the National Front Marine Le Pen took second place with 23.1%, and the "right" list, headed by Senator Valerie Lethard, finished third with 11.7%.
