Biography
Vasily Gavrilovich Bogachev was born on January 10 (23), 1910 in the village of Blagoveshchenka, Voronezh county, Voronezh province (now the Russian village of Gvozdyovka, Ramonsky district, Voronezh region ) in a peasant family. Russian Having received primary education in his native village, Vasily Bogachev in 1925 moved with his parents to Voronezh . In 1926, he got a job at the Voronezh Mechanical Plant . At first he was a laborer, then he mastered the profession of a welder. At the factory he joined the Komsomol . In the evenings, he studied at the Voronezh party school. In 1930, Vasily Bogachev was admitted to the CPSU (B.) , After which he was elected secretary of the Komsomol organization of the plant.
Vasily Gavrilovich Bogachev was drafted into the ranks of the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army in 1936 and was sent to the Oryol Armored School . After its completion in 1934, he was appointed to the 35th light tank brigade , which included in the Soviet-Finnish War of 1939-1940. The brigade as part of the 7th Army of the North-Western Front participated in the hostilities on the Karelian Isthmus and the breakthrough of the Mannerheim Line . Vasily Gavrilovich ended the war with the rank of captain. After the Winter War, the 35th light tank brigade was redeployed to Berdichev in the Kiev Special Military District , where the 43rd Panzer Division was formed on its base in March 1941 as part of the 19th Mechanized Corps .
In battles with the Nazi invaders, Captain V. G. Bogachev from June 22, 1941. On the first day of the war, the 43rd Panzer Division of the Southwestern Front caused significant damage to the Germans near Dubno , and Captain Bogachev made one of the first single tank rams in the history of the Great Patriotic War. At the end of June 1941, Vasily Gavrilovich was seriously wounded and was treated at the hospital in Zmiev for more than two months. In mid-September 1941, he returned to his unit, which was reorganized into the 10th Tank Brigade. On September 15, 1941, the brigade became part of the 38th Army of the Southwestern Front and participated in defensive battles near Poltava . In these battles, the tank battalion of Captain V. G. Bogachev was especially distinguished. For 10 days, from September 17 to 27, the unit staunchly held the occupied lines in the vicinity of the villages of Paraskeevka , Vasilevka and Voinovka . Repeatedly the Bogachev battalion inflicted counterattacks on the German units, returning the positions lost by the rifle units. During the battles, the battalion of Captain V. G. Bogachev destroyed 22 enemy anti-tank guns with the calculations, 11 tanks, 2 regimental guns, 6 mortars, 12 vehicles with military cargo and almost one and a half motorized infantry battalions. Personally, Captain Bogachev destroyed one tank and one anti-tank gun.
On September 27, 1941, in the battle near the village of Novofedorovka [1], Captain V. G. Bogachev died. The battalion commander was buried in the village of Novofedorovka, Chutovsky district, Poltava region of Ukraine . On December 27, 1941, Captain Vasily Gavrilovich Bogachev was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union posthumously. On September 23, 1953, the ashes of V. G. Bogachev were reburied in the mass grave of Soviet soldiers in the village of Sidorenkovo, Valkovsky district, Kharkov region of Ukraine.
