Policy
In the presidential election of 2012, the inhabitants of the canton gave in the 1st round Francois Hollande 35.4% of the vote against 30.8% in Marine Le Pen and 11.5% in Nicolas Sarkozy , in the 2nd round in the canton defeated Hollande, who received 69.7% of the vote (2007 Round 1: Segolen Royal - 30.6%; Sarkozy - 17.2%. Round 2: Royal - 64.0%). In the elections to the National Assembly in 2012 in the 12th electoral district of Pas-de-Calais, in the 1st round they gave a majority of votes - 34.3% to the acting deputy, the mayor of Lievin Jean-Pierre Küshed , who spoke at these elections as an independent left-wing candidate, but in the district as a whole he could not reach the 2nd round, where the candidate of the Socialist Party, Nicolas Be , won, having collected 59.1% of the vote. (2007. Jean-Pierre Küsheda (SP): Round 1 - 52.8%, Round 2 - 59.5%). In the regional elections of 2010 in the 1st round, the list of socialists won, collecting 43.1% of the vote against 18.6% from the National Front, 13.4% from the Communists and 6.1% from the list of the “Right”. In the 2nd round, a single “left list” with the participation of socialists, communists and “greens” headed by the President of the Regional Council of Nor-Pas-de-Calais, Daniel Percheron, received 66.5% of the votes, the National Front Marine Le Pen took second place with 23.8%, and the "right" list, headed by Senator Valerie Lethard, finished third with 9.7%.
