Sokolnicheskaya Square (until September 6, 1983 - part of Rusakova Street and part of Sokolnicheskaya Zastava Square , until 1921 or 1922 - part of Sokolnicheskoye Highway and part of Sokolnicheskaya Zastava Square ) - an area located in the Eastern administrative district of Moscow in the Sokolniki district . From December 9, 2017 to December 31, 2019, the area is closed for traffic in connection with the construction of the Stromynka metro station [1] .

Content
History
The square was formed on September 6, 1983 from part of Rusakovskaya Street and part of Sokolnicheskaya Zastava Square and was named after Sokolniki Park and Sokolniki Streets . Rusakovskaya Street received its modern name in memory of Ivan Vasilievich Rusakov , until 1921 or 1922 it was called Sokolnicheskoye Highway by its location on the territory of the former Sokolniki Field . Sokolnicheskaya Zastava Square (also called Sokolnicheskaya Zastava Square ) was formed in the 19th century at the place of an outpost at the gates of the Kamer-Kollezhsky shaft on a site adjacent to the Sokolniki grove [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] .
Location
Sokolnicheskaya Square, representing an elongated rectangle, runs from Rusakovskaya Street to the north-west in the direction of Sokolniki Park to Sokolniki Val and Oleniy Val Streets , which continue as Sokolniki Pavilion Passage . The area is adjacent to Pesochny Lane from the southwest and the 4th Field Lane from the northeast, between Sokolnicheskaya Square, Oleniy Val Street and the 2nd and 4th Field Lanes, Sokolnicheskaya Zastava Square is located.
Noteworthy buildings and structures
Odd side:
- d. 7 - Former Tivoli Variety Theater, former Luch Cinema, now the Youth House and Monument Conservation Society. A memorial plaque on Lenin’s speech on November 7, 1920 at the plenum of the Sokolniki District Council of Workers and Red Army Deputies. The building is an architectural monument of regional significance [8] .

Transport
At the southern end of the square is the lobby of the Sokolniki metro station of the Sokolnicheskaya line . Nearby are stops of trolleybus routes No. 14 and 41, tram routes No. 4, 7, 13, 25, 45 and B, as well as a number of bus routes (T32, 78, 265, 332, 716, 975). At the northern end of the square (from the side of the main entrance to the Sokolniki park), buses No. 40, 122 and 140 open on the square and buses No. 75 stop.
