Assef Mezgebu (born June 19, 1978 ) is an Ethiopian long distance runner . He specialized in 10,000 meters running and cross country running . At the Olympics in Atlanta, a distance of 5000 meters ran, but could not reach the final. Bronze medalist of the 1998 World Cross-country Championship . In 1999, he became the bronze medalist of the world championship in Seville and the champion of the All-African Games . At the 2000 Olympics, he won a bronze medal, showing a score of 27.19.75. In 2001, he took 2nd place in the 2001 world championship .
