Geography
The village is located northwest of Urgench , 20 km east of Shavat . The population as of 2004 was 27.3 thousand people.
History
One of the medieval cities of Khorezm. Gurlen was founded in the 11th century.
In the 20s of the XIX century it was a famous merchant city of the Khiva Khanate . [one]
Under Soviet rule, the status of a city was assigned since 1982 . [2] , however, in 1992, Gurlen was deprived of the status of a city and became an urban-type settlement.
