Biography

He was born on February 20, 1924 in the village of Nizhny Kislyay [1] [2] (now the Buturlinovsky District of the Voronezh Region) in a peasant family. Russian

He graduated from 7 classes. He worked on a collective farm .

In the Red Army since 1942 . Member of the Battle of Stalingrad [3] .

The shooter of the 130th Guards Rifle Guards Regiment, the Red Armyman Konstantin Polyakov, as part of a group of fighters , broke into the enemy’s location on January 15, 1943 in the vicinity of the railway village of Donskoy (now Krasnovka, Tarasovskiy District, Rostov Region) and repelled numerous enemy attacks during the day. The fighters continued to fire even when the Germans set fire to the house. He died in this battle.

He was buried in a mass grave at the Krasnovka station.

Rewards

  • By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of March 31, 1943 for exemplary performance of command missions at the front of the struggle against the German invaders and courage and heroism shown to Konstantin Illarionovich Polyakov, he was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union.
  • He was awarded the Order of Lenin.

Memory

  • At the platform of the Krasnovka station, a monument to 13 Heroes was erected.
  • In Moscow , the Central Museum of the Armed Forces is equipped with the stand “Thirteen Heroes of Krasnovka” [4] .
  • In 1999 , a memorial plaque was erected in the village of Nizhny Kislyay, Buturlinovsky District, Voronezh Region, on the building of the Nizhne-Kislyayskaya Secondary School of Public Education, named after K. I. Polyakov [5] .
  • In 1964, in the village of Nizhny Kislyay and in 1978 in the city of Buturlinovka , streets were named after Konstantin Polyakov [5] .
  • In the Buturlin Museum of Local Lore there is a photo stand dedicated to fellow countrymen-Buturlinites - Heroes of the Soviet Union [6] .
