Kahlo was founded by the British colonial administration as a hill station for the rest of English officials and officers. This was facilitated by the mild climate of the city, located at an altitude of 1300 m above sea level. After Burma gained independence, Kalo became a popular holiday destination for wealthy Burmese people.
Representatives of national minorities ( Danu , Palaung , Pa-o and others) live in the vicinity of Kalo, which contributes to the development of ethnographic tourism.
