Hypoventilation syndrome ( subatelectasis ) - insufficient (incomplete) ventilation of the lung or its lobe occurs as a result of impaired airway, such as large bronchi , due to partial blockages ( cancer , adenoma, curd masses, foreign bodies , mucus , blood clots, roundworms ) or compression (enlarged lymph nodes, scars, tumors ), impaired central regulation of respiration, functional insufficiency of the respiratory muscles. In addition, hypoventilation syndrome may be due to insufficient ventilation of the entire gas exchange zone of the lungs with impaired blood oxygenation ( hypoxemia ) and difficulty in removing carbon dioxide from the body ( hypercapnia ) [1] . Compression hypoventilation syndrome develops as a result of pleurisy , hydrothorax or pneumothorax .

Content
Clinical picture
The main manifestations: weakening of breathing, lengthening of exhalation, decrease in lung volume (lobe, segment), and with the action of the valve mechanism, emphysema or, more correctly, hyperpneumatosis . The displacement of the mediastinum is detected during the X-ray examination - during inspiration towards the lesion, and in the presence of a valve mechanism - during exhalation to the healthy side; reduced diaphragm mobility.
Complications
If medical care has not been provided in a timely manner, complications develop over time: focal pneumonia , bronchiectasis , bullous emphysema , spontaneous pneumothorax .
