Biography
Juan Honores began to play for Universario at the age of 20, in 1935, but Honores reached his heyday in 1939, when he became part of the team, led by Teodoro Fernandez, who managed to win the championship of Peru. In the same year, he played all the matches as a goalkeeper in the winning championship of South America. The game of Honorez attracted the attention of wealthy foreign clubs and in 1941 El Chueco (that is, " Twisty ", as the fans nicknamed Honorez) moved to the Argentinean Newells Old Boys . In Argentina, football has had a professional status for a decade, but inviting foreign goalkeepers, especially from the amateur leagues (at that time professionalism was not formally introduced in Peru) was rare. In Argentina, Honores spent 89 matches in 5 years. For the past two years, he has played for Platense .
In 1946, the 31-year-old Honores returned to his homeland, where he began to play for the “ Centro Ikeno ”. He was no longer called to the team, but he helped his last team win the Second Division in 1948. Therefore, he finished the career of the player Juan Honores the next year in the status of a football player of the High Division.
As part of the national team of Peru, Juan Honores made his debut in 1937 at the championship of South America , which was a failure for the “Incas”. The Peruvians used all three goalkeepers at that championship: in the game with Brazil, the gate was defended by Juan Umberto Valdivieso (defeat 2: 3), in the next match against Uruguay (defeat 2: 4) - Marcos Ubi , and Honores spent the remaining three games. The Peruvians lost 0-1 to the hosts, the Argentines , and in this match there was a flagrant violation of the rules - instead of Antonio Sastre removed in 84 minutes, Hector Blotto entered the field. The protest of Peru CONMEBOL rejected for an unknown reason. Then Peru tied with the national team of Chile , and in the final match beat Paraguay 1-0. The successful ending of that tournament did not allow the Peruvians to leave their last place.
In 1939, Honores was already a solid player in the founding team. He spent all 4 matches of Peru at the home championship of the continent and helped his team for the first time become the champion of South America. The Peruvians won all the meetings with a goal difference of 13: 4, including the decisive match against the Uruguay national team (2: 1), which also came up to him with a 100% score. At the tournaments of 1941 and 1942, Honores was also the main goalkeeper. In the first case, he spent all the games of the championship, in the second - three of four - in the game against Argentina, Juan Soriano was on goal.
At the end of his football career, Honores worked as a coach. He achieved the greatest success by heading Sporting Crystal . In 1962, Honores led this team to the gold medals of the championship of Peru. Honores also worked with Carlos A. Manucci, with whom he won the Cup of Peru in 1968, with the teams Grau de Piura and Sport Boys.
