History
The history of Islam in Kurgan is not simple. The first mosque was opened in the house of Amrofzan Galeev on March 11, 1910 , and in October 1912 Muhammednazib Khabibullin was appointed imam. In Soviet times, the mosque, like other religious institutions, was abolished. First, to the Tatar-Bashkir school, and in 1941 it was simply closed (Building of the Promotional Cooperation Department of the Kurgan Region).
Construction
In 2000, the Muslim organization of Kurgan was headed by Salavat Safarov. July 15, 2000 [2] in the Youth Square of Kurgan, the laying of the foundation of a new mosque building took place [3] . After the opening, she will be able to receive up to 800 believers. In August 2000, Safarov died in a car accident. The new head of the Muslim community was his deputy Rafail Galiullin, who later, in 2001, was elected the head of the Kazyat administration of Muslims in the Kurgan region as part of the DUMACHR, at that time the only centralized structure in the region.
The mosque project was developed by the specialists of the Institute “Kurgangrazhdanproekt”, who twice traveled to the Tyumen region to get acquainted with the architecture of mosques, and based on them they developed a project of the Kurgan Cathedral Mosque. The construction was funded by a donation fund of local Muslim donations.
In 2008, Juma prayers began to be held in the basement.
