“Golden Slumbers” is based on the poem “Cradle Song” (from the English - “Lullaby”) by the playwright Thomas Dekker . It is found in his 1603 comedy Patient Grissel . McCartney saw the notes of this song on the piano in his father’s house, where his stepsister Ruth McCartney left them. Unable to read them, he composed his own music. The text of the poem has been slightly modified; Thomas Dekker was not named among the authors of the texts of the album Abbey Road. [one]
Record Song
There is an initial version of the song recorded on January 7 and 9, 1969, during the session of the working album “Get Back” [2] .
The lead vocal in the song belongs to McCartney. The beginning of the song is performed on the piano in soft colors - it gives the impression of listening to a lullaby . Then McCartney's vocals and piano and bass are connected. Later, when the drums are connected, McCartney switches to a stronger tone. Paul paid great attention to the vocals in this song and made serious efforts to record it, in the end he was satisfied.
