Usage
- In the Czech alphabet, the letter Ý is the 40th in a row.
- In the Slovak alphabet, the letter Ý is the 44th letter of the alphabet.
- In Icelandic it means a long vowel sound I, in Czech and Slovak - long Y, in Turkmen - Y (unlike ordinary Y, which is pronounced [ ɯ ]).
- In Vietnamese writing transmits the sound [ i ] with an upward tone. It also means the word Italy - an abbreviation for Ý Đại Lợi , which comes from the Chinese 意大利 ( Yìdàlì in Mandarin ).
- The letter was used in medieval Spanish , but is not used now. However, the letter is preserved in the name of the Spanish village of Aina - Aýna .
