Menhaden Smith [1] , or yellowfin menhene [1] ( lat. Brevoortia smithi ) is a species of marine ray-finned fish from the herring family. They live in the Gulf of Mexico - from Beaufort ( North Carolina ) to the Florida District of the Indian River [2] .

DescriptionFish are usually 20 cm long, less often reach 33 cm [2] . The body is silver, with a greenish or bluish back. Golden yellow fins. There is only one black spot behind the gill petals [2] .
EcologyKosyakov fishes (possibly, except for the north of their range), found in coastal areas, in bays and in the oceanic region. They feed on plankton filtered from water [2] .
