Biography

Orthodox. From the small nobles, which in with. Lunevka owned only 70 acres of land [1] .

He graduated from the Mikhailovsky Voronezh Military Gymnasium (1873) and the 1st Pavlovsk Military School (1875), was released as second lieutenant. With the rank of ensign as part of the Pavlovsky Life Guards regiment participated in the Russian-Turkish war of 1877-1878. From August 1877 to March 1882 - second lieutenant.

In connection with the successful completion in 1882 of the Nikolaev Academy of the General Staff (1st category), Lieutenant P. Smorodsky was awarded the rank of captain of the guard with renaming as captain of the General Staff (04.04.1882).

He continued his service in the Odessa Military District as a senior adjutant to the headquarters of the 15th Infantry Division .

From February 1886 to August 1891, he was in charge of the movement of troops along the railways and waterways of the Volga-Kama region. In February 1886, he was lieutenant colonel. The censored command of the battalion served in the Pavlovsky Life Guards Regiment from November 1889 to October 1890.

For the differences in August 1890, he was awarded the rank of colonel. In August 1891, P. Smorodsky was transferred to the General Staff Headquarters among the staff officers of the General Staff, where he served until March 1892. Then he was appointed clerk of the office of the Committee on the mobilization of troops.

From April 1899 to January 1901 - Head of the Department of the General Staff.

In April 1900, P. Smorodsky was awarded the rank of Major General (for distinction (according to manifesto). He was appointed head of the department of the Office of Military Communications of the General Staff (01/17/1901-27.05.1904). From May 1904 to October 1910 consisted of two generals laid down by state at the General Staff.

During the Russo-Japanese War - commander of the 2nd Brigade of the 2nd Guards Infantry Division (09/02/1904-23.05.1905 and 06/08/1905 - 01/10/1905).

Since December 1906 - Lieutenant General (for distinction).

From October 1910 to January 1914, he held the post of head of the pension and service of the lower ranks of the department of the General Staff. Then he was appointed managing director of the Alexander Committee on the wounded. The initiator of the creation of special fraternal cemeteries of the victims of the Great War, in particular, the Minsk Brotherhood Military Cemetery , the victims of the First World War of 1914-1918.

Since March 22, 1915 P. Smorodsky is a general from infantry .

In 1917 he was removed from his post and was in reserve at the headquarters of the Petrograd Military District. In connection with the disease, he was dismissed from service with a uniform and pension on 09/10/1917 (10/23/1917). The further fate of P. Smorodsky is unknown.
