The javelin throwing competition for women at the 2011 World Athletics Championships was held on September 1 and 2: on the first day, there was a qualification, and the second was a major competition.
The current world champion - German Steffi Nerius - did not defend his title.

General Information
The competition was attended by 28 athletes representing 21 countries ( Germany had the largest representation - three participants). Twelve people participated in the final segment, representing nine states (the Czech Republic (2) and Germany (3) had more than one participant).
In qualifying one athlete improved her best result in this form, and then, in the final competitions, three more participants repeated her experience.
Two athletes performed in the final round of an attempt to continue the current best result of the season in the world, and Maria Abakumova world championship record.
Barbora Shpotakova at the third world championships in a row became one of the winners, and Syunte Filiune became the first representative of Africa in history who won the world championships in javelin throwing (for men, another South African entered earlier among the world championships - Marius Corbett ).
