Biography
Nicol Alexander Diell was born on April 21, 1817 in the Scottish city of Edinburgh . He studied in Edinburgh, in 1837 received a master's degree in art at the University of Edinburgh . He then became a member of the Edinburgh Botanical Society. In 1841, Diell went to Bombay , where he began to work in customs. At the same time, Diell published botany publications in the Journal of Botany by William Hooker . Then Dalzell was appointed head of the Bombay Forest Service. In 1861, Nicholas Alexander Diell and Alexander Gibson published The Bombay flora , which for a long time was the only processing of the flora of eastern India . More than 200 plant species described in this book were not previously known to science. In 1870, due to malaria, Diell was forced to retire and return to Europe. He died in December 1877 or in January 1878 in Edinburgh.
The main herbarium of Nicola Diella is kept at the Kew Royal Botanic Gardens (K).
