Biography
Georgy Ordanovsky first picked up a guitar at the age of 13 under the influence of The Beatles and soon entered a music school. In 1970, he wrote his first song in Russian under the name "Gods". From 1971 to 1983 he wrote more than a hundred songs, many of which have not been forgotten so far.
“Russians” is one of the first Russian bands to perform their own songs, and even in Russian. April 27, 1969 "The Russians" gave their first concert in the St. Petersburg cafe "Eureka". In 1971, a talented author, guitarist and vocalist Georgy Ordansky joined the band, who soon became the main songwriter and leader of the group. By the end of 1974, the Ordanovsky material began to prevail in the “Russians” repertoire. The peculiar poetic structure of his songs, the undoubted melodic gift and the spectacular stage presentation helped him become the leader of the “Russians” and one of the most influential figures on the rock scene of the city, and these songs, often built as parables or fables, with an unexpected and shocking ending - helped make the name of the group.
In 1979, Rudolf Fuchs (the first "impresario" of the famous underground singer Arkady Severny ) organizes a performance by Severny with Georgy Ordansky and the rock band "Russians" (the record has not been preserved).
On February 21, 1981, the “Russians” among the first eight groups listened to the ranks of the newly created Leningrad Rock Club , and on March 7, along with “ Picnic ”, “ Myths ” and “ Mirror ” took part in its opening. In May, they performed at the International Political Song Festival in Vilnius, and upon returning from the Baltic, managed to close the first club season. In September, the group played for three days in a row at the Central Park of Music and Culture, gathering crowds of St. Petersburg hippans, and in October once again tore the applause of Muscovites, playing on the Dynaccord equipment, kindly provided to them by Alexander Gradsky .
It can be safely stated that in the first period of the Rock Club’s history, from 1981 to 1983, the “Russians” were, if not the strongest, then the most popular and beloved among the people of Peter’s group - their spontaneous expression, the magical charm of concert action, the spirit that knows no prohibitions freemen they surpassed both the masters and the ambitious debutants. Ordanovsky quickly progressed as a songwriter, and his best numbers were “There will be a day” (“Whoever is not with us is against us”), “Let the rock help us!”, “Bloody rain”, “Oh, what a day!” “Canaries”, “Carousel”, “Roadside burdock”, “About abomination”, etc. - became classics of St. Petersburg rock and sound relevant even after years.
In April 1982, the “Russians” visited Lithuania a second time, playing at the fourth (and, as it turned out, last) festival “Opus 82”. On May 29, they performed a scandal at the Summer Theater of the Leningrad Central Park of Arts and Culture - while listening to “Russians,” the public went so wild that the frightened administration called the police, and almost half of the hall was arrested right at the exit.
Fortunately, the Russians themselves hardly touched the repressions themselves. They gave concerts in Leningrad, traveled to Estonia and again to Moscow, recorded a couple of their songs on the radio and prepared a new program.
On May 14, 1983, the “Russians” played at the 1st Festival of the Leningrad Rock Club and shared third place with “ Picnic ”, “ Tambourine ” and “ Strange Games ” (“for their integrity in implementing the ideas of rock music”).
In summer, the “Russians” didn’t dance for long in Toksovo , and in July they gave their last concert at the rock festival in Vyborg. In the middle of summer, the “Russians” retired to their rehearsal base and for five months they thoroughly prepared a new program from the songs of Zhora that had not yet been played. The premiere was scheduled for February 19, 1984 , but she was not destined to take place.
On January 13, 1984, Georgy Ordansky and his friends went out of town to celebrate the Old New Year , where he went missing in the vicinity of the village of Semrino . The “Russians” could not bear this loss, and the group broke up.
At first, friends and fans hoped that Ordanovsky would appear - some claimed that he saw him or received some news from him. But over the years it became clear that he had left this life - of his own or of another's will. On May 10, 2001, the Federal Court of the Krasnoselsky District of St. Petersburg ruled that Georgi Ordanovsky was declared dead , but the fact of his death has not yet been proven.
The first “Russian Memorial” was held in St. Petersburg in 1987 . The second - in January 1988 in the Palace of Culture of Railwaymen. At the end of April 1990, the largest concert in memory of Georgy Ordansky was organized in St. Petersburg CCM, organized by musicians of the Picnic group , with the participation of Ordansky's friends Mike Naumenko , Vladimir Rekshan , Yuri Shevchuk , Myths and others. The last memorial to this day held in September 1999 in the Palace of Culture. Lensoviet , when a large crowd of people celebrated the thirtieth anniversary of the legendary group.
Since 2001, the annual open rock festival in memory of George Ordansky has been held in St. Petersburg. The general producer of the festival is the ex-drummer of the Russians Evgeny Mochulov.
