Hackulous

Hackulous (hackulo.us) is a former hacker project for organizing and searching for pirated applications for iPhone and other mobile devices from Apple , which had a fairly developed infrastructure.

The project was closed on December 30, 2012.

Consisted of several applications:

  • Crackulous is a program for hacking applications purchased in the AppStore and uploading them to various file hosting services .
  • Installous is a program for finding applications in a database, automatically downloading from a file hosting service and installing on a user device.
  • AppSync is a patch for the installation system of a mobile device that allows you to install hacked applications both through Installous and using iTunes from a desktop PC.
  • AppTrackr.org is actually a database of hacked applications.

Project attitude

The attitude towards the project among Apple mobile device users was mixed. In particular, hacker groups that create programs for jailbreaking devices have repeatedly expressed a clearly negative attitude to the project as violating hacker ethics , since piracy forces manufacturers to use more sophisticated technical means of countering piracy , which negatively affects digital culture in general.
