Belousov in 2007
- On October 23, 2003, Avangard dismisses Sergei Gersonsky and invites Valery Belousov , by which time the team occupied a rather low 13th place for themselves. The result was not long in coming; in the next 19 games, the team suffered only 2 defeats, and in the rest, it scored points. As a result, the team took 3rd place in the regular season and met with Dynamo Moscow in the quarter finals: score in the series 3-0 (1: 0, 1: 0 OT, 2: 1); “Lada” Tolyatti was defeated in the semifinals: the score was in the 3-0 series (3: 1, 6: 0, 1: 0), and in the third match, “Lada” left the site in protest and the game was not played out. In the final, “Vanguard” , led by Belousov , met with Metallurg Mg , the first two matches in Magnitogorsk, “Vanguard” lost (1: 4, 1: 2 B). In Omsk, the Hawks managed to equalize the score in the series 2-2 (2: 1 B, 3: 2), and for the first time the “Vanguard” managed to win the shootout in the Playoffs. The fifth match of the series took place in Magnitogorsk, the score (0: 0) at the end of the regular time of the match eloquently testified that both teams were not ready to take risks, the fate of the championship was decided in a series of post-match free throws, where the avant-garde players turned out to be more cold-blooded. What is noteworthy, “Vanguard” managed to recoup for the second time with the score in the series 0-2 and win 3-2. Avangard won the gold medals of the Russian Championship for the first time , making an unprecedented jump during the season from 13th to 1st place.
- The season 2004/2005 until the end of November , the team could not find “their yoke”, victories alternated with defeats, the most difficult period was September 11-18: Vanguard suffered 4 defeats in a row with a total goal difference of -10 goals , including defeat on native ice from an outsider of the championship of Moscow Spartak 1: 5. The turning point was the match with Severstal on November 22 , in this match Jaromir Jagr made his debut on his own ice, the team won with a score of 4: 1 and after that issued a 10-match series of games without defeats. From January 13 to 16, the European Cup was held in St. Petersburg, the champions of 6 European countries were to determine the strongest team in the old world, Russia was represented by Omsk Vanguard in this tournament. At the group stage, Hawks met with Slovak Dukla and Swedish XB-71 (defeating 6: 1 and 9: 0, respectively). In the final on January 16, “Vanguard” met with Kärpyat (Finland), the main time ended in a draw 1: 1, and in extra time in the 75th minute of the match with a verified pass by Nikita Nikitin, Jaromir Jagr “pinned” the puck into the net of the Finnish goalkeeper. Vanguard became the club champion of Europe . At the end of the tournament, “Vanguard” issued a 10-match winning series of games in the Russian Championship. The team finished the regular season in 6th place and met in the quarter finals with last year's rival for the final Metallurg Mg , this series exactly repeated the final of 2003/2004 : in Magnitogorsk, two defeats 2: 5, 1: 2 and the score in the series 0- 2, in Omsk, two wins 4: 1, 4: 2 (the score in the series equaled 2-2) and the fifth decisive match in Magnitogorsk - the victory of Avangard in overtime 4: 3, with the hawks leveling the score in the match, replacing the goalkeeper with the sixth a field player 45 seconds before the end of the game (goal by Maxim Sushinsky ), in overtime Jaromir Jagr’s solo pass through the entire area Ines "Vanguard" victory. In the semifinals, “Vanguard” met with Dynamo Moscow , the score was in series 1-3 (3: 2 B, 0:11, 0: 1, 1: 3), the series was remembered by a large number of refereeing errors in favor of Dynamo , the key of which occurred in 3 match of the series in Omsk, with equal play in the 48th minute, Mirnov throws on goal and the puck flies from the post behind Maraklu, the referee behind the goal does not light the lantern. The chief judge Kadyrov goes to watch a “movie”, a languid pause and Kadyrov points to the center - 0: 1. Subsequently, it was proved that there was no goal, since the puck cannot, according to the laws of physics, first hit one bar, then another, and at the same time cross the goal line. “Vanguard” had to play in the consolation round for bronze medals with Lokomotiv : 3: 6, 4: 5 and the final 4th place .
- In the 2005/2006 season, the team jumped “above their heads”, with a mediocre game in the regular season, Vanguard managed to take 4th place and in the Playoffs the team reached the final of the Russian Championship. In the 1/8 finals, the Hawks met with SKA (St. Petersburg), the score in the series was 3-0 (3: 0, 5: 1, 3: 1). In 1/4, Omsk faced off with another army club - CSKA, score in the series 3-0 (3: 0, 6: 1, 3: 2). And in the 1/2 finals, the Vanguard “clashed” with the principal rival of the last 3 years - Metallurg Mg. The first two matches were held on the homepage of the "steelworkers", in the first match Hawks won 2-1 OT, and in the second Magnitogorsk 4: 3. In Omsk, Vanguard upset the guests twice: 3: 2 OT, 3: 2 OT and reached the final, knocking out the unbeaten team of Dave King from the championship to the village. In the final, Vanguard could not compete on equal terms with Kazan Ak Bars and lost three times in a row: 6: 1, 2: 0, 3: 1. Thus, the team won the silver medal of the championship .
- The season 2006/2007, the team passed in the same breath, competing on equal terms with Kazan Ak Bars, Vanguard took 2nd place, behind the winner of the regular season by 9 points. Of the results, the most memorable were: away victory over Wings of the Soviets 17: 1 (the largest victory at the highest level) and the latest Vanguard match in the Russian Championship, held on March 6, 2007 (the beginning of the match 22:30), which ended with the victory of the Omsk Hawks with a score of 5: 0. In the 1/8 finals, Vanguard met Vityaz, the score was in the series 3-0 (5: 1, 5: 0, 1: 0), in the quarterfinals the Hawks crossed their clubs with the Yaroslavl Lokomotiv, the score in the series 3-1 (5: 2, 3: 4, 2: 0, 4: 3 OT). In the semifinals, the rivals Vanguard, 4 times in a row, got Metallurg Mg. This time the victory in the series was celebrated by Magnitogorsk, the score in the series 1-3 (1: 3, 2: 1, 3: 4, 2: 5). Thus, the team won bronze medals .
- The 2007/2008 season was hard for Vanguard, victories alternated with defeats, public opinion believed that fortune had turned away from hawks in connection with the move to the new ten-thousandth Arena-Omsk. The club management gave a blank check to Valery Belousov, who had argued in the past that he was able to bring the team to a combat-ready state by the middle of the season and decisive games, but there was no progress in the game of hawks. By the end of December 2007, the team was in 10th place and measures were taken: on December 28, 2007 the club introduced a new position of general manager, which was taken by Anatoly Fedorovich Bardin, the first decision of which was the dismissal of Valery Belousov and the entire coaching staff to resign. The new head coach was appointed Sergei Gersonsky.
“Coaching leapfrog” (2007-2009)
- On December 29, 2007, the head coach of Avangard was appointed Sergey Gersonsky, for whom the appearance of hawks on the coaching bridge was already his second, his first attempt failed and he was dismissed, but even at the second coming of Gersonsky , the Avangard was in a fever. achieved this 5-match series of victories at the finish of the regular season and the final 8th place. In the 1/8 finals , Vanguard met Dynamo Moscow and lost in the series with a score of 1-3 (3: 4 OT, 3: 2 OT, 2: 3, 2: 3), thus “Vanguard” for the first time in 13 years failed to reach the quarter finals and the seven-year series of the team’s exit to the semi- finals was interrupted .
- In the 2008/2009 season, Sergei Gersonsky was given the opportunity to work out just 6 matches, in which Avangard suffered 4 defeats, after which he was dismissed. Acting head coach was appointed Igor Nikitin. Avangard, led by Nikitin, played 5 matches and won all five games. At that time, the club management was looking for a foreign coach. On September 26, Wayne Fleming was appointed head coach of Omsk Avangard . The team held several successful games, but on October 13, 2008, a tragedy occurred, in a match in Chekhov with Vityaz a few minutes before the end of the match , the heart of the “magnificent seven” of Omsk Avant-garde Alexei Cherepanov stopped , at 22:45 doctors ascertained the death of the hockey player. It was a big blow for the team from which she could not go until the end of the season. On January 30, 2009, Vanguard and Wayne Fleming terminated the employment relationship by agreement of the parties, and Igor Nikitin was appointed acting head coach. The team, thanks to the guest victory of Metallurg Mg over Severstal in the last round, retained 16th place and got a chance to rehabilitate in the playoffs. “Vanguard” coped with the task, in 1/8 finals the current champion and regular season winner Salavat Yulaev was beaten with a score of 3-1 in the series (2: 3 OT, 1: 0 B, 3: 2 OT, 4: 1), in the semifinals, the team did not have 15 seconds to create a second sensation by defeating the 2nd team of the KHL “Ak Bars” , the score in the series is 2-3 (2: 0, 2: 3 B, 4: 2, 1:11, 2: 3 OT). The team took 8th place . April 14, 2009 Igor Nikitin was approved as the head coach of Avangard .
- In the 2009/2010 season, the team acted quite confidently, there were several recessions in the game, however , Vanguard was at the top of the table. But at the end of the regular season the team experienced a recession, in the last seven matches Avangard scored only 4 points and slipped to 5th place in the Eastern Conference. An unusual incident happened on the day of the first Avangard match in the playoffs, general manager Anatoly Bardin announced the strengthening of the coaching staff of the Avangard club . The Finnish specialist Raimo Summanen has been appointed head coach. Senior trainers - Igor Nikitin and Vasily Tikhonov. However, these emergency measures did not help in the 1/8 finals. Avangard lost to Petrochemist with a score of 0-3 (0: 2, 2: 6, 1: 2). The team finished the season in 12th place .

The Second Coming of Summanen (2011-present)
Raimo Summanen in 2012
- On December 15, 2012, Raimo Summanen was officially introduced to the team, the Finn invited the team to start from scratch, forget all the old grievances, and warned that he was going to rebuild the team’s game, which would not inevitably lead to defeats, but then victories would come. Raimo looked like a mirror, of the first 7 matches, Vanguard won only 2 matches and scored only 7 points out of 21 possible. But then victories came, and at the finish of the regular season the Hawks won 6 matches in a row, including the main rival for 1 place in the division Salavat Yulaev (5: 2) and Ak Bars (4: 3). Thus, the Vanguard won the division, which ensured 2nd place in the conference and more of an opponent in the first round of the Playoffs. In the 1/8 finals, the Khabarovsk Cupid 4-0 (4: 2, 4: 3, 4: 2, 3: 1) was completed, in 1/4 the Vanguard crossed the clubs with the Metallurgist Mg 4-1 (0: 1 OT, 5 : 2, 3: 1, 5: 3, 3: 2 OT), in the 1/2 finals Vanguard dealt with the Tractor (Chelyabinsk) 4-1 (1: 3, 3: 2 OT, 1: 0, 3: 1, 1: 0) and in the final of the Gagarin Cup he met with Dynamo Moscow, a principal rival, the series turned out to be tense, the teams turned out to be fairly equal in composition and very organized in the game plan, Vanguard lost the series with a score of 3-4 (2: 1, 1: 2, 1: 0, 2: 1 to 2: 3, 2: 5, 0: 1) and thus the first time in history KHL won silver IU Ali Championship and Cup Eastern Conference.
