Story
The tagline of the cartoon: "From civilization - to the sewers." Roddy is a pet rat leading a carefree pet life in one of the richest areas of London - Kensington. He feels like a complete aristocrat, arranges for himself typical aristocratic entertainments, but at the same time he is completely alone. Once, in the absence of the owners, Sid, the rats suddenly appeared in his house, having lived all his life in the sewer, looking and behaving accordingly, and almost immediately declares to Roddy that he is not going to leave the house. To get rid of the unwanted guest, Roddy tries to lower Sid into the toilet (passing him off as a jacuzzi), but as a result, the "aristocrat" himself finds himself in the London sewer, where he discovers a rat city.
In search of opportunities to return home, he goes to Rita Malon, an enterprising rat working on his Jimmy Dodger boat. From the very beginning, the relationship between Rita and Roddy did not work out: at the moment of their meeting, rat-bodyguards of Toad , a very influential citizen of the underground city, are hunting, who hunt for Rita to take away the ruby that Rita received as a gift from her father (this stone allegedly belonged to the crown Elizabeth II ), but Roddy accidentally turns on the siren on Rita’s ship, which gives them a secret refuge. In addition, after being captured by bodyguards, he (as a result of threats from the bandits) gives them the place where the ruby lies. Later it turns out that the Toad collects a collection of things, one way or another connected with the queen, and the ruby for him is one of those things that are greatly lacking in his gallery.
When they find themselves already in the Toad's lair, Rita still manages to outwit him and she escapes from the Toad along with the ruby, grabbing a unique cable along the way, and Roddy also ties in with her, since all his hopes for returning home are still connected with her. Rita does not know what this cable is for, and uses it as a bungee (and later as a belt). The toad wanted to flush the underground city by opening the main gate during a soccer game break, when millions of people would go to the toilet and flush the sewers to kill the rats and populate the city with their kind. A unique cable was a necessary part in its gate opening mechanism.
Fleeing from their pursuit, he again falls into her ship. As a result of this new meeting, it turns out that the ruby was fake - Roddy breaks it to prove it to Rita, which, of course, causes her indignation. To reassure her, Roddy promises her a real ruby if she manages to get him upstairs, and they make a deal.
To catch Rita and get the cable back, Toad calls Frog, his French cousin. Although Frog is a professional, he fails to catch Roddy and Rita, and they find themselves on the surface. Arriving home, the aristocrat discovers at home the utter defeat that Sid arranged. Roddy, afraid to tell Rita that he has no friends and relatives, says that Sid is his brother. Unfortunately, Sid and Rita know each other, and thus Rita finds out about his loneliness - a fact that he tried to hide from her, since he saw her in the circle of her big crazy family down there. Despite this disappointment, Rita does not lose her sympathy for him (which arose as a result of adventures experienced together), but he does not want to hear anything, and pretends that he lives perfectly alone, and Rita leaves.
In the underground city, the cable was taken from her, with the help of which the Toad was preparing to fulfill his evil plan. Meanwhile, Roddy finds Sid watching the final match between England and Germany, and he tells him that he does not intend to go to the toilet until the break so as not to miss anything from the game, thereby prompting Roddy to think about what kind of plan was prepared by Toad . Roddy goes down the drain in the same way to prevent the destruction of the underground city. He manages to free Rita, and together they save the city from death. After that, Roddy decides to stay with Rita and not return home (even before leaving, he offered Sid his place). And he did the right thing, since with the beginning of the final credits we learn that a cat was brought to Roddy’s house.
