Biography
After the death of Omar, who was killed in 1817 by the Janissaries , and his successor Ali , who died of the plague in 1818, Hussein was elected to the dei. He began to attack European ships and merchants and came into clash with the French government.
Annoyed by the fact that France did not pay any attention to his monetary claims, and outraged by the arrogant response of the French consul Deval, he hit the latter with a fan and refused to give any satisfaction. France in June 1827 launched a blockade of the Algerian shores . This measure, however, did not lead to anything, and the Ministry of Polignac , who wished by brilliant military actions to indicate the success of its internal reactionary policy, decided to undertake the conquest of Algeria . Hussein was forced to surrender to the French who landed in Algeria and was deprived of power (1830).
After the French occupation of Algeria, Hussein Day was exiled to the Kingdom of Naples , where he lived for three years. He died in Alexandria , Egypt in 1838 [2] .
