Biography

He was the youngest of the children in the Rubin family. Father: David Ivanovich Rubin (1899-1967) . At the time the war began, Ilya was not yet 18 years old, so he was not drafted into the army and left with his parents to evacuate to the Podgornaya station, near Semipalatinsk. In 1942 he was drafted into the army, and ended up in the Ryazan artillery officer school in the village of Talgar near Alma-Ata. At the end of 1944, Ilya Rubin was sent to the 2nd Ukrainian Front, to the 9th breakthrough building. Parts of Ilya Rubin participated in the capture of Budapest and Vienna. The war ended in Prague.

After demobilization, he returned to his parents in Tashkent. In 1952 he graduated from art school and remained in it to teach. Later he entered the Tashkent Theater and Art Institute . After graduation, he remained teaching in it until 1980.

Since 1964 - a member of the Union of Artists of the USSR. Member of many solo and group exhibitions. Since 1991, he lived and worked in Jerusalem. The artist’s paintings are kept in museums and private collections in Uzbekistan, Georgia, Japan, Israel and many other countries of the world.

Ilya Rubin died on March 5, 2013 in Jerusalem.

Family

Ilya Rubin was married, he has two daughters - writer Dina Rubina and violinist Vera Rubina (president of the Massachusetts Association of Music Educators) [1] , three grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.
