Biography
Born in the family of a fleet lieutenant (later vice admiral ) Friedrich von Kruzenshtern.
In 1868-1870 he studied at the Kronstadt gymnasium , opened on October 23, 1862 and housed in the building of the 1st training naval crew. He entered service on August 12, 1870, starting to study at the 1st Pavlovsk School , which he graduated on July 17, 1872 and was released as ensign in the Life Guards Izmailovsky Regiment ; from April 13, 1875 - Second Lieutenant .
He participated in the Russian-Turkish war as an officer for errands under E.I. Totleben . Due to illness, he was sent to St. Petersburg for treatment; from August 30, 1877 - lieutenant .
In 1878 he began to study at the Nikolaev Academy of the General Staff , which in 1881 he graduated from the 1st category; from April 22, 1881 - Staff Captain of the Guard with renaming as captains of the General Staff. Immediately after graduation, he was sent abroad for training, attended military science courses in Berlin and Vienna , took part in maneuvers; from September 15, 1881 - senior adjutant of the headquarters of the 1st Army Corps ; from December 18, 1881 - chief officer for special assignments at the headquarters of the corps; On February 27, 1882 he was transferred to the 1st Guards Cavalry Division - senior adjutant of the headquarters.
From August 14, 1886, N.F. Kruzenshtern was the chief officer for assignments at the headquarters of the guard forces and the Petersburg military district, and from April 9, 1888, he was the head officer , and from April 24, 1888, he was lieutenant colonel .
For some time (from December 12, 1891 to January 8, 1893) he commanded a battalion in the Life Guards Izmailovsky regiment and received another rank - colonel from April 5, 1892.
In 1894 he graduated from the course of the Officer Cavalry School and soon, on July 8, 1895, was appointed chief of staff of the 1st Guards Cavalry Division .
From October 24, 1900 he commanded the 11th Dragoon Kharkov regiment ; from March 10, 1902 - Major General . He was the commander of the 1st brigade of the 4th cavalry division . On February 3, 1904, he was the commander of the Life Guards of His Majesty's Ulan Regiment . Since February 10, 1906 - commander of the 2nd Brigade of the 2nd Guards Cavalry Division . Since February 10, 1907 - Head of the 1st Guards Cavalry Division; May 31, 1907 promoted to lieutenant general .
At the end of 1910, on December 23, he was appointed to command the 18th Army Corps consisting of the 23rd and 37th Infantry Divisions; May 31, 1913, for distinction, received the rank of general from the cavalry . At the head of the corps he participated in the First World War as part of the 9th Army of General P. A. Lechitsky .
After he was involved in a car accident on September 6, 1916, he was appointed a member of the Military Council of the Russian Empire and left the army on October 4, 1916.
In 1918 he emigrated to Estonia . He was honorary chairman of the White Cross Society, chairman of the Court of Honor of the Society for Mutual Assistance of former military personnel in Tallinn. In 1939 he was forced to leave for Germany. He died in the almshouse in Svec .
