Bligia ( Latin Blighia ) is a genus of trees included in the Sapindoideae subfamily of the Sapindaceae family ( Sapindaceae ). Includes 6 [2] species . The typical species , bligiya tasty , is one of the national symbols of Jamaica .

Title
The genus Bligia was named by the German-English botanist Carl Koenig in honor of William Bly (1754–1817), the English vice-admiral, navigator, traveling with James Cook .
Botanical description
Representatives of the genus - rather large trees . Leaves are few, pinnately dissected into shares of equal size with smooth edges, located on the petioles.
Flowers are collected at the ends of branches in racemes, on short pedicels, with small bracts. Calyx and halo five - lobed. Sepals have a narrow ovoid shape, sometimes slightly overlapping each other. Petals are narrow, scaly. Eight stamens.
The fruit is pear-shaped, large, fleshy, the seeds are located in three compartments.
Area
Types of bligii grow exclusively in Africa . Bligiya tasty delivered to Central America and Florida .
