Brodavis (lat.) - a genus of extinct birds from the order of Hesperornithiformes (Hesperornithiformes). The age of the skeleton remains found in North America ( USA , Canada ) and Asia ( Mongolia ) is estimated by the Late Cretaceous , ( Campanian and Maastrichtian ). Species of Brodavis are believed to be the first freshwater and most recent members of the order.

The genus was separated into a separate Brodavidae family and described in 2012 by the American paleontologist Larry D. Martin ( Larry D. Martin ; University of Kansas , Lawrence ), Russian biologist Evgeny N. Kurochkin ( Paleontological Institute RAS, Moscow ) and Canadian scientist Tim Tokarik ( Tim T. Tokaryk ; University of Regina, Saskatchewan , Canada ). To the three species of the new genus described by them, they added the previously known species Brodavis varneri (Martin & Cordes-Person, 2007) , which in 2007 was discovered by researchers James Martin and Amanda Cordes-Person in composition of the genus Baptornis Marsh , 1877 [1] .

The name Brodavis was given in honor of paleontologist and ornithologist Professor Pierce Brodkorb, who made a major contribution to the study of fossil birds. The second part of the name of the taxon is formed from the Latin name of birds ( lat. Avis ) [1] .
