Dobrotin, Sergey Fedorovich

Sergey Dobrotin ( September 24, 1854 - after 1918) - Russian general, hero of the Russian-Japanese and First World Wars, cavalier of the Order of St. George of the 4th and 3rd degrees, as well as St. George’s diamond weapons.

Biography

Orthodox. The son of a personal nobleman .

He graduated from the 1st Moscow Cadet Corps (1870) and the Moscow Junior Infantry School (1874), released as an ensign in the 103rd Infantry Regiment of Petrozavodsk .

Officers: Second Lieutenant (1876), Lieutenant (1877), Staff Captain (1882), Captain (1887), Lieutenant Colonel (1893), Colonel (for distinction, 1901), Major General (for military distinctions, 1905), General Lieutenant (for distinction, 1914), General from Infantry (1915).

As part of the Petrozavodsk regiment, he participated in the Russian-Turkish war of 1877-1878 .

He commanded the company and battalion of the regiment, was in charge of the regimental farm. In the years 1902-1904 he commanded the 12th Barnaul reserve battalion.

In the Russian-Japanese war, he commanded the 12th Siberian Barnaul Infantry Regiment, in which the battalion was deployed. In the battle on the river, without artillery, he covered the retreat of the neighboring units, while receiving a through wound to the right shoulder, but remained in the ranks until the end of the battle. For the battle of Dashichao he was awarded the Order of St. George , 4th degree [1]

 

For the fact that during the 16-hour battle of July 17, 1904, despite the strongest artillery and rifle fire, the four attacks of the Japanese were repelled, showing amazing composure, courage and orderliness, and under his command the regiment several times threw itself at bayonets.

 

In the battle of Mukden he was wounded a second time: shrapnel hit the head. As a result of this injury, Dobrotin lost his right eye and was evacuated to Russia.

In 1905-1906 he was at the disposal of the commander of the Kiev military district , then commanded the 3rd Rifle Brigade (1906-1914).

May 3, 1914 he was appointed head of the 44th Infantry Division , with which he joined the First World War and participated in hostilities on the South-Western Front . For differences in battle near the village of Radastav, on August 25, 1914, he received the St. George weapon with diamonds (1915), and was also awarded the Order of Saint George of the 3rd degree

After the revolution he emigrated. The Dobrotinsky Lane in Barnaul was named after General Dobrotin, renamed Trudovaya after the revolution [2] .

In the atmosphere of defeats and retreats, he managed to maintain the vigor of the regiment and boldly led him to attack. Having earned the respect of officers and soldiers, D. caused in his subordinates a desire to work not for fear, but for conscience, serving himself always as an example. Belief in him of an officer and a soldier was great, and where D. was, in their opinion, there can be no defeat.
