Main office

The company was founded in 1990 by graduates of the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology Vadim Yakunin and Grigor Khachaturov [3] , was engaged in trade and intermediary activities, since 1992, the priority area of ​​activity is the distribution of pharmaceutical preparations. In 1999, in partnership with the companies Lek , Alkaloid and Nycomed , the pharmaceutical company Sotex was established, which deals with the packaging and packaging of medicines. In the future, Sotex will become part of the company's production business segment. Since 2001, the company has been developing the retail business - the first pharmacy of the future Rigla chain has been opened. In 2002, OAO Protek was established, which became the parent company and consolidating ownership of shares in subsidiaries.

In 2005, the Sotex pharmaceutical plant was built in the Sergiev-Posad district of the Moscow region with a capacity of up to 100 million ampoules per year. The company was the largest participant in the state program for supplementary drug supply (DLO), in 2006, supplying beneficiaries with 25% of the drugs from the total program (first place among distributors) [4] .

In mid-August 2007, the company's former CEO, Vitaly Smerdov, was arrested on suspicion of bribing high-ranking employees of the Federal Fund for Mandatory Medical Insurance of Russia [4] . In March 2008, he was released from custody with a bail. July 30, 2009 by a jury trial, Vitaly Smerdov was found guilty of bribery under Article 292 of the Criminal Code. [five]

On April 27, 2010, the company entered the IPO , the funds received as a result of the placement were used mainly for the development of the retail and manufacturing segments [6] .

Owners and management

Shareholders of the company: Protek LLC (46.5% of the company's shares), Chairman of the Board of Directors Vadim Yakunin (27.91%), Hungarian company Gedeon Richter (5%). Share of shares in free circulation of 20%. The three first mentioned companies are registered in Cyprus, their owner is Vadim Yakunin himself [7] .

Activity

The basis of the company's business is the wholesale distribution of medicinal products [8] . At the end of 2013, Protek is among the three largest distributors in terms of market share of direct drug supplies [9] . The company was the largest participant in the state program for supplementary drug supply (DLO), in 2006, supplying beneficiaries with 25% of the drugs from the total program (first place among distributors) [4] .

The company owns the Rigla pharmacy chain (as of April 1, 2014 - 1027 pharmacies [10] , sales according to consolidated financial statements under IFRS 2010 - 12 billion rubles), the Sotex pharmaceutical plant (production in 2010 - 4.771 billion rubles) and warehouse complexes more than 170 thousand m² located throughout Russia.

The company's revenue in 2013 amounted to 118 billion rubles. (in 2012 - about 125 billion rubles.).

Violations of antitrust laws

In December 2012, the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) of Russia opened a deal with the participation of CJSC Protek. According to the FAS, in the bidding for the purchase of medicines for the needs of the Ministry of Health and Social Development of the Russian Federation under the state program "7 nosologies" (with an aggregate amount of contracts of 3.4 billion rubles), ZAO Protek, together with other pharmaceutical companies, manipulated its price offers with the purpose of overstating the amount of supply of drugs under government contracts [11] .
