History

Pistol MK II 22/45.

The company was founded by William B. Ruger and Alexander McCormick Sturm in 1949. Initially, it was a small rented workshop. [3] The successful creation of the Japanese Nambu Type 14 pistol by U.Ruger , which he managed to get from a Marine who returned from the war, was the impetus for the creation of the company. The first self-loading pistol of the 22nd caliber, developed by the firm ( Ruger Standard ) was visually similar to the German Parabellum and the American Colt Woodsman ; his commercial success was the reason for the organization of the company.

Ruger is leading the American rifle market for the small-caliber .22 Long Rifle small-ignition cartridge , primarily due to the large sales of the Ruger 10/22 self-loading rifle. The popularity of this model is determined not only by its relatively low price combined with quality, but also by the wide range and availability of accessories, which make it possible to assemble a rifle from parts modified by third-party firms.

Among the American pistols of this caliber are widely distributed other products of the company - Ruger MK II and Ruger MK III . As with the 10/22 rifle, there are also a large number of accessories for this MkII pistol.

The company also has a foundry in the cities of Newport (New Hampshire) and Prescott, (Arizona), where parts are cast, including from titanium. In particular, the Ruger Golf division produces metal parts of golf clubs of various brands.

The shares of the company were first put up for auction in 1969, since 1990 listed on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE: RGR). After the death of Alex Sturm in 1951, William Ruger led the company until the end of his life (2002).

From 1949 to 2004, the company produced 20 million units of small arms for hunting , shooting sports , self-defense , collectibles and the police .
