History
The team was founded on October 27, 1897 , under the name "Atletico Escuela Normal", the club has its present name since 1904 . Magallanes is one of the oldest clubs in Chile. The club has been wearing its traditional blue and white colors since 1908 . The team spends home games at the Santiago Bueras stadium, which seats 5,000 spectators. The principal rivals of the club are the Kolo-Kolo clubs, the confrontation with which is named βFather and Sonβ (since the Kolo-Kolo was founded by immigrants from Magallanes), and the Santiago Morning , the confrontation with which is called β Clasico Metrapolitano. "
Magallanes won the first three professional championships of Chile - 1933, 1934 and 1935, and in all it won four championships, and by this indicator it is the 6th most titled club in Chile. The club spent its last season in the top division of Chile in 1986, since then Magallanes is going through hard times playing in the second and third divisions of the country, repeatedly finding itself on the verge of bankruptcy.
In 2011, the club achieved a largely unexpected result, reaching the final of the Chile Cup , losing there on the results of two matches only in the penalty shootout of Universidad Catholic . This success was the first significant achievement of the club over the past 65 years.
