Location
The Upper Vylshilkinskaya depression is located in the upper course of the Shilka , between the Borschovochny Range (from the south-east) and the spurs of the Nerchinsko-Kuenga Range (from the north-west). The depression begins in the southwest, in the vicinity of the village of Kazanovo , from where it stretches for 40 km in the northeast direction to the vicinity of the village of Arbagar . The width of the depression is from 2 to 8 km.
The Shilkinskaya depression is located downstream of the Shilka (relative to the Upper Vyzhilkinskaya depression) between the Borschovochny ridge and its spurs. A depression begins in the southeast, in the vicinity of the village of Bishigino , from where it stretches for almost 80 km in the northeast direction to the village of Kokui . The width varies from 1-2 to 3-4 km.
Geology
The foundation of both basins occurred in the Mesozoic , further formation took place in the Neogene-Quaternary time.
The Upper Vylkylkinsk depression is filled with sedimentary deposits (with deposits of brown coal) of lower Cretaceous age, which are overlain by Cenozoic continental sediments of minor thickness. The lower part of the depression is occupied by the Shilka bed . The depression in the cross section is asymmetric: its northwestern side connects to the slopes of the spur of the Nerchinsko-Kuenga ridge mostly smoothly, and to the slopes of the Borschovochny ridge - more steeply.
The Shilkinskaya depression is composed of sedimentary (also with brown coal), granitoid and basaltoid formations of the Upper Jurassic – Lower Cretaceous age, overlapped with Cenozoic continental sediments of small thickness. The lower part of the bottom of the depression is occupied by the Shilka riverbed. The main types of landscape of the depression are the riverine meadows , forest-steppe , as well as forests of larch , pine and birch .
