Location

The Targetuyskaya Depression is located on the right bank of the lower reaches of the Ingoda River and on the left bank of its left tributary, the Tura River, between the Daursky Range (in the west) and the spurs of the Mogoytuysky Range (in the east). The depression begins from the village of Kumakhta , stretches for 45 km to the north-north-east, to the Ingoda valley, connecting in places with it. The maximum width of the depression reaches 25 km.

Geology

The depression is composed of sedimentary (with brown coal) and basaltoid formations, overlain from above by Cenozoic continental sediments of relatively small thickness. The framing structures contain zones of gold and antimony mineralization. The foundation of the basin belongs to the Mesozoic ; further formation proceeded at the Neogene-Quaternary time.

Landscape

The bottom of the Targetuyskaya Depression is tilted south and east, its absolute elevations decrease from 750 (in the west and south) to 580-590 m (in the Ingoda Valley). The surface of the depression is complicated by internal uplifts in the form of local hump massifs. The prevailing types of landscape are meadow plains and forest-steppes that go uphill into mountain taiga .
