History
Built in the mid-14th century by the Davizzi family.
In 1516, the house was sold to the Bartolini family.
In 1578, the building was bought by Bernardo Davanzati . He installed a family coat of arms on the facade and completed the roof terrace. The palace was a success at the end of the eighteenth century and was visited by Luigi Cherubini and Pietro Nardini .
The building belonged to the Davanzati family until 1838 when Carlo Davanzati, the last member of the family, committed suicide.
In 1904, the building was not miraculously demolished, and it was acquired by the antique dealer Elia Volpi, who restored it in the style of the 14th century.
In 1910 the palace was opened to the public as a museum of the Florentine house.
In 1916, Volpi sold most of the palace furniture at auction in the United States.
In 1951, the house was finally bought by the Italian state, and in 1956 it was reopened for visiting.
In the late 90s, the building underwent a lengthy restoration, in 2005 the first and second floors were opened, June 11, 2009 - the museum was fully opened.
