History
The square got its name on September 7, 1998 . It was named after the founder of the family company and the dynasty of masters of jewelry, Carl Faberge . This name was chosen due to the fact that the Russian Gems jewelry enterprise is located on the square. As a result of the company’s petition to the city government, the square in front of the factory was named in honor of the great jeweler.
In 1996, a bust of Karl Faberge made of black gabbro granite by sculptors Leonid Aristov and Valentin Ivanov was installed on the square in front of the Russian Gems factory building. A half-length sculptural portrait is mounted on a three-meter gray-pink granite column from the Renaissance quarry. For several years, this monument was created with the money of jewelers and workers of the Russian Gems factory, and after the monument was opened, commemorative medals were made and presented - “For an invaluable contribution to the creation of the monument to Carl Faberge”. [1] The granddaughter of the famous jeweler Tatyana Faberge was present at the opening ceremony of the monument. In world history, this is just the second case when a monument is erected to a jeweler by compatriots. [one]
