History
Foundation of the park
In the 1920s, in Melitopol there was already a city garden near the Milk River , operating since pre-revolutionary times, however, the recreation area for the numerically grown city became insufficient. The chief forester of the Staroberdyansk forestry Ivan Alekseev drafted a new city park. The implementation of the project began in 1926, when the city was visited by the first secretary of the Dnipropetrovsk regional committee Mendel Khataevich (at that time Melitopol was part of the Dnipropetrovsk region ).
| At 10:00 p.m., the heads of all enterprises of the city were called into the building of the city party committee (the current museum building on M. Grushevsky St. ) Khataevich ordered them to set a specific task: to create an amusement park on a vacant land, on empty land beyond the border Mezhevaya street . At 24:00, the heads of enterprises with the tasks received did not depart home, but to their jobs. At 8:00 the next day, construction and installation work was launched around the front.S. I. Benzik , director of the plant named after Mikoyan |
All work was directed by Ivan Alekseev . The wasteland was dug up manually. At first, the area of the park under construction was 3.5 ha, then it was increased to 7 ha [1] . Water was brought from a large pond of the city garden and from the hospital in wooden barrels, since there was no water supply in the city. The seedlings provided by Ivan Alekseev were transported from the Berdyansk forestry on a tractor with two trailers.
The park was opened six months after the start of work, in 1927. Initially, he was named after M. M. Khataevich [2] .
Park during the pre-war and war period
In the 1930s, the park was fenced around the perimeter by a forged fence on a brick foundation. According to the memoirs of the city’s old-timers, this fence belonged to the former stone cathedral of Alexander Nevsky on Bazarnaya Square . Crosses were cut out of the forged fence, and the city park was enclosed with bars. The main entrance was on Megeve Street. Before him were steps. The entrance consisted of three arched gates of red brick, much higher than the fence, and several passages with ticket offices. The ticket cost was 15 kopecks. The park was open on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays, and the rest of the week was sanitary. The park closed at 11 pm [2] .
