Biography
Jean Baptiste Henri Joseph Demazier was born July 10, 1786 in the city of Lille in northern France. From childhood, he was interested in botany, growing plants. In 1812, Demazier published the book Agrostographie , devoted to cereal plants in the north of France. Demazier was one of the most famous specialists in secretive plants of the beginning and middle of the XIX century . He was one of the editors of Annales des sciences naturelles and Bulletin de la société des sciences de Lille . From 1825 to 1851 Demazier published an important series of herbarium specimens, accompanied by descriptions. Demazier was familiar with many famous botanists, including T.K. Prost , J. B. Mougot , J. L. M. Castan , J. P. Gepin , K. Montan , M. Roberge , L. A. de Brebisson , R. Lenormand , L. S. V. de Lacroix and V. Nyulander . Demazier was a member of the French Academy of Sciences . Jean Baptiste Demazier died on June 23, 1862 in the commune of Lambersard near Lille.
