The administrative center is the city of Samut Songkhram .
On the coat of arms of the province is a drum, and under it is a river. It symbolizes the river Mekhlong , as well as consonant former name of the province. The current name of the province translates as "ocean war."
Geographical position
The province is located in the central part of the country, about 70 km south-west of Bangkok .
The province is located at the mouth of the river Mekhlong and on the coast of the Gulf of Thailand . From the river, irrigation water is distributed throughout the province. In the coastal areas mined sea salt. Mel Donhoe is known for its endemic clam species - Solen regularis.

History
At the time of the Ayutthaya period, the territory of the modern province was called Suannok (from the Thai Outer Garden) and was ruled by Ratburi . During the reign of King Thaksin, Suannock became a province. The wife of King Rama I Amarindra and King Rama II (city of Amphava, where the memorial park was created) were born here.
Here were born the famous and first officially registered conjoined twins Chang and Eng Bankers .
