Biography
Lanchani studied engineering at the University of Pontifical Rome. After graduation, he took part in the excavation of the harbor of Trajan in Ostia , the description of the excavations was published in the Monumenti ed Annali of the Institute of Archaeological Communications. Since then, Lancani was carried away by archaeological research of ancient structures.
In 1872, he became secretary of the Commissione Archaeologica Communale , the municipal archaeological commission in Rome, and in 1879, professor of Roman topography at the University of Rome . Later, Lanchani became an honorary professor at the universities of Würzburg , Oxford , Glasgow , Harvard , Aberdeen .
Lancani archaeological site in Rome, and also collected notes, sketches, excerpts from sources of the Renaissance . These data were published in 4 volumes of "Storia degli Scavi di Roma e le Notizie intorno alle Collezioni Romane di Antichità" in 1902-1912.
Lancani also prevented the construction of a public park on the territory of the Caracalla term in Rome.
