Anauly is a tribal group of Yukagirs who have lived along the upper course of Anadyr , which has disappeared by now. They spoke the taiga version of the Yukagir language . Anauls on Anadyr represented the “coastal”, “river” Yukagirs who settled on the banks of the rivers. The ethnonym Anaula is derived from the Chukchi word Enmyl, meaning 'Living on the river Enmyvaam'. Among the remaining Yukaghirs, they were distinguished by militancy, but due to their sedentary nature they became easy prey for Russian yasak collectors. The first conflict between anauls and Russians took place in 1649 , when a detachment of the pioneer Semyon Dezhnev appeared on Anadyr.
