History

The Goiano League is held under the auspices of the FGF - Goiano Football Federation ( port.-Brazil. Federação Goiana de Futebol ), founded in 1939 . According to the KBF rating , the League of Goiano currently occupies the 8th place in strength in Brazil.

The first Goias state championship was held in 1944 . Until 1962, inclusive, had the status of an amateur championship. Since 1963, professionalism has been introduced.

Historically, the state has been dominated by four clubs from Goiania - Goias, Goiania, Vila Nova and Atletico Goianiense. However, Goiania last became the state champion in 1974 , and occupied the second place in 1990 and currently only plays in the second division of the state championship.

The format of the championship often changes. Since 2012, 10 clubs have been participating in the tournament of the High Division.
