Fungus Amongus is the debut studio album of the American rock band Incubus , released in November 1995 by Stopuglynailfungus Music On Chillum, the band's own independent label. November 7, 2000 was reissued on Epic / Immortal after the album became popular.

Many of the names indicated in the disc booklet in the Participants section are pseudonyms : Fabio pseudonym for guitarist Mike Einsaiger, Brandy Flower and Happy Knappy for vocalist Brandon Boyd, Dirk Lance for bass player Alex Katunichi, Brett and Brett Spivery pseudonym Brett friend Spivey the group that shot two videos for them on the songs “I Miss You” and “Summer Romance (Anti-Gravity Love Song)”, and their first two DVDs.
On the cover of the album depicts the poisonous psychoactive mushroom Amanita muscaria ( Latin Amanita muscaria ), which is used as a means against flies.
Stylistically, the album is noticeably strongly inspired by the funk metal bands of those times, such as Red Hot Chili Peppers , Primus and Mr. Bungle , each of which is mentioned in the booklet of the album. The band’s sound is also quasi- rap , in view of vocalist Brandon Boyd’s use of recitative for songs such as Psychopsilocybin, Trouble in 421, Speak Free and Take Me to Your Leader. This will continue on SCIENCE's album.

Criticism
After its first release, the album did not hit the charts, but after the reissue, the album took 116th place on the Billboard 200 [5] . The album received generally negative reviews from critics. AllMusic's Dean Carlson wrote: “ The Incubus Independent Debut is an unremarkable album from the outskirts MTV - funk . "He also criticized frontman Brandon Boyd , writing the following:" I don’t like everything, especially the frontman of the band Brandon Boyd; he growls as if he wants to overthrow everyone except himself [4] . "Tim Grierson of About.com noted:" At an early stage, Incubus sounds like the tired Rage Against the Machine and Red Hot Chili Peppers [6] . "
