Breed History
Hybrid ferrets obtained by crossing a forest black ferret ( Putorius putorius ) with an African ferret, also called Putorius putorius furo , were brought to the Pushkinsky fur farm in 1980 as laboratory animals. To study the biological features and develop the technology of industrial breeding of ferrets, the NIIPZK sable breeding laboratory located at the Pushkinsky breeding plant was reorganized into a sable breeding and ferret breeding laboratory. The laboratory was headed by an experienced specialist G.P. Kazakova. The authors of the breed participated in the work on improving the herd of ferrets and creating a selection achievement: from the NIIPZK G.P. Kazakova, T.I. Kazakova, G.A. Kuznetsov, G.A. Fedoseyev, from the breeding factory "Pushkinsky" - N. V. Artemova, Z. V. Gradova, N.I. Kudin, A.P. Nyukhalov.
At the beginning of breeding, ferrets were small, had a great variety in the color of pubescence. Their color ranged from light yellow, almost white to cream and golden. The covering hairs of the ferrets were from brown to blue-black. The desired type of golden ferret was identified - animals with an orange underfoot of varying intensity and black covering hair. Simultaneously with the improvement of the color and quality of the hairline, enlargement work was carried out.
All the research in the process of creating the breed took about twenty years. The copyright certificate was received in 2004 .
