Biography

Born in the family of a Little Russian general judge , Taurian governor Grigory Petrovich Miloradovich . Mother Alexandra Pavlovna Kochubey. On his father, he was the native nephew of Count Mikhail Andreevich Miloradovich , and on his mother, state chancellor, Prince Viktor Pavlovich Kochubey . In 1803, together with his brothers Alexander and Illarion, he was enrolled in the Main German School of St. Peter . Having received his initial education there, Alexei in 1810 entered the Page Corps, where he studied until 1812. In August 1812, having not yet reached the age of majority , he, with the consent of his parents, enlisted in the army . On August 27, the day after the Battle of Borodino , he was promoted to ensign of the Absheron Infantry Regiment , whose chief was his uncle Mikhail Andreevich. Upon arrival in the army, Miloradovich was appointed an orderly to the famous chef and participated with him in all matters.

Having received a fire baptism in a bloody battle near Vyazma ( October 22 ), he was awarded the Order of St. Vladimir, 4th class, with a bow. For the battle of Bauzen (May 7 and 8, 1813) he was awarded the Prussian Order of Pour le MΓ©rite .

For the memorable days of the retreat (May 9, 10 and 11) he was awarded a golden saber with an inscription for bravery, Miloradovich received the Prussian Order of the Iron Cross for the Battle of Kulma , and on September 21, 1813 , for military merits he was transferred to the Life Guards Semenovsky Regiment , on August 27 count Miloradovich wrote to his father:

β€œAlexey Grigoryevich is healthy and cheerful; in the last case he had a horse near me wounded without any harm to him. He behaves modestly, well and bravely. I introduced his rank to the transfer to the Semenov Guards Regiment, where the best corps was chosen by the Tsar himself.

Then he participated in the β€œbattle of the peoples” near Leipzig , for which he was awarded the Order of St. Stanislav of the 2nd degree, and in the case near Paris . From Paris he proceeded with a regiment to Normandy , and from Cherbourg on a Russian squadron he returned to Kronstadt .

Miloradovich returned to St. Petersburg already as a guard officer of the regiment beloved by the Sovereign, having two orders on his neck, Vladimir in his buttonhole, Kulm cross , gold weapons and two medals. When he introduced himself to the Sovereign Emperor Alexander , the Sovereign looked at him and said Miloradovich en petit.

Continuing to serve in the Semenovsky regiment, Miloradovich was fascinated by the religious and mystical trend that dominated at that time, he stopped visiting secular society , where he always met the most cordial welcome. He became one of the members of the whip sect, the main movement of which was Ekaterina Tatarinova .

His father, learning about his admission as a follower of the sect and not knowing the purpose or direction of this sect, was alarmed for his son so much that he decided to directly address the Emperor with a written request. Emperor Alexander I replied:

β€œGrigory Petrovich! Taking part in everything related to your home, I want to reassure you about your son Alexei, who serves in the Life Guards Semyonovsky regiment. He is an excellent officer in his jealousy for service and morality. I tried to penetrate his connections and, according to reliable information, I found that there is nothing here that would divert from religion; on the contrary, he became even more attached to the church and serviceable in his position. Therefore, I conclude that his connections cannot be harmful. According to my rules, although I do not shy away from any conscience, on the other hand I would not wish if anything had been revealed against the church or civil order. I hope that these lines will reassure you, I am supportive to you.

St. Petersburg, August 20, 1818.

With the most zealous members of the sect, Tatarinova Martyn, Stepanovich, E. A. Golovin , V. M. Popov, Miloradovich was in close friendship and in his spiritual testament (witnessed by the last two persons) written 12 days before his death, he talks about his friends, about that great invaluable good, which he owes it to them completely, for since this cordial connection, he loved his Savior Jesus Christ and his holy church and devoted himself to the Christian life.

Devoting himself to good deeds, Miloradovich distributed to the poor much of the insignificant content that his father gave him. On January 7, 1820, being already a lieutenant , Miloradovich resigned because his health did not allow him to continue military service. Soon he, with the rank of titular adviser, was appointed an official on a special assignment under the then Governor-General Count Mikhail Andreevich.

Miloradovich’s health in 1824 was already poor; he had signs of consumption . After several colds, he fell ill with a chest disease that passed into consumption, from which he died on June 27, 1825. He was buried at Volkovsky cemetery . After his death, he left a debt of 15,000 rubles. his brother Alexander Grigoryevich, having no money at that time, tried to keep the memory of his brother clear, therefore, while his parents were still alive, he borrowed 15,000 rubles, which in 1838 increased to 40,000 rubles and paid the entire debt.

Memoirs of Contemporaries

Contemporaries recall Grigory Miloradovich with pleasure. Fyodor Nikolayevich Glinka as early as 1813, when he was printing his notes, mentioned him as the color of the youth of the time. Here, by the way, is what he writes:

Yesterday, the son of Miloradovich came to us from the Page Corps, about whom I wrote to you so many times, and whom I put at a great price to me. His son, the nephew of our general, is a wonderful well-mannered young man. I am sincerely glad that he will stay with us. Now he was with us, and for the first time, he saw the battlefield, where although the thunders fell silent, blood was still needed.
