Biography
Born in 1874 in the village of Staroruscevo, in the Pskov province. He received his primary education at the Stolbovsky Zemsky School. He worked as a paramedic, later retired.
On August 4, 1901, he entered the Valaam Monastery , where on March 20, 1906 he was enrolled as a novice.
March 1, 1908 was tonsured a monk with the name of Jerome.
May 31, 1910 was ordained to the rank of hierodeacon , and June 28, 1912 - to the rank of hieromonk . In 1921, he was elected treasurer. [1] In the monastery he carried a series of priests. In 1926, a church court banned the priesthood "for the unauthorized interpretation of canons in order to bring discord between the monastic brotherhood; for a demonstrative speech against the authorities and spiritual authority, for violation of the monastic charter . ” It was located in the Germanic and Tikhvin sketes of Balaam.
Since June 18, 1933, he was in charge of the fraternal hospital and pharmacy.
During the Soviet-Finnish war of 1939-1940, together with the Old Valaam brotherhood, he was evacuated deep into Finland, where the foundation of the New Valaam Monastery was laid. After the end of the Second World War, the monastery’s brothers were accepted into the jurisdiction of the Moscow Patriarchate.
On April 14, 1948, at a meeting of the brotherhood of the New Valaam Monastery, he was elected rector and approved on May 19, 1948. November 25, 1948 in the St. Nicholas Epiphany Cathedral of the city of Leningrad, Metropolitan Gregory (Chukov) was elevated to the rank of hegumen .
He died in 1952 and was buried in the fraternal cemetery of the New Valaam Monastery.
