The frontier of autumn β€” winter of 1941 was marked by a breakthrough in the Kryukovo area by two German military groups operating in different directions. The 8th Guards Rifle Division named after IV Panfilov , the 2nd Guards Cavalry Corps of General LM Dovator and the 1st Guards Tank Brigade of General M. E. Katukov entered the battle. It was here, at the station Kryukovo , after the capture of the villages of Peshki and Nikolskoe by German troops that the headquarters of the 16th Army was moved.

On November 30, the Red Army launched an attack throughout the defensive line of the 16th Army. The parties fought especially violently for the villages of Kryukovo and Peshki, in particular, Kryukovo passed from hand to hand eight times; The village was turned by the Wehrmacht into a stronghold with pillboxes and tank ambushes.

The village was liberated from German troops on December 7, 1941 by the 8th Guards Rifle Division and the 1st Guards Tank Brigade [6] .
