History

The 4th Mountain Rifle Brigade was established in July 1939. It was created by the last of the Romanian mountain rifle brigades, therefore it was the least equipped. So, for example, in its composition there was no howitzer mountain rifle division.

Before the attack on the USSR, the 4th Mountain Rifle Brigade, which was part of the Mountain Corps of the 3rd Army, occupied positions on the Soviet-Romanian border at the junction of the Ukrainian and Moldavian SSRs , having against themselves parts of the Soviet 17th Rifle Corps . With the outbreak of war, she took part in the occupation of Northern Bukovina .

In August, together with the 1st and 2nd mountain rifle brigades, it operated in the Pervomaisk region [1] , and in October in the Melitopol direction.

In December 1941, during the preparation of the Germans attack on Sevastopol, the brigade was entrusted with the task of fighting the Crimean partisans.

March 15, 1942 was renamed the 4th Mountain Division.
